Stainless steel needs to be cleaned regularly in order for it to maintain its corrosion resistance. Stainless steel consists of a thin top layer of Chromium Oxide which protects the underlying Chromium from rusting. Dirt and Other contaminants can compromise this protective top layer and cause the stainless steel to corrode. However, if the outlined care recommendations are followed, your stainless steel sink will remain beautiful and rust free for years.
Dirt –
Wash with warm water with or without a gentle detergent. If the dirt remains, clean the surface with a mild non-scratching abrasive powder and a bristle brush, sponge, or clean cloth. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Do not use steel brushes, or steel wool to clean stainless steel!
Fingerprints and Stains –
Use glass cleaner or a paste of soda ash. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Oil and Grease –
Try washing with a soap or detergent and water. If this method fails to remove the grease or oil, clean with a combination of a detergent, a solvent, and water. Only solvents that do not contain chlorine should be used, such as acetone, methyl alcohol, or mineral spirits.
